We are recruiting for a Trainee Paraplanner to join a very successful and growing Practice of St. James’s Place Wealth (SJP) Management based on the outskirts of Derby, in Brailsford.
Role overview

Working as part of a larger team, the Trainee Paraplanner will be supporting Wealth Managers in delivering a first-class service to their client bank. The role will initially include tasks such as monitoring initial applications, analysing data received from providers and processing illustrations for the Paraplanning Department. Your attention to detail and technical skills will allow you to process information effectively and accurately, whilst displaying a professional attitude at all times.
The successful candidate will be given full support by the Practice plus the backing of a FTSE 100 company in a structured development programme to achieve their Diploma qualification. This is an incredibly exciting opportunity for someone who is looking for a long-term, successful career as a Paraplanner within Wealth Management.
Role content
The Trainee Paraplanner role will compile of a mix of Technical and Administrative duties including (but not exclusively) the following:
- Collate, evaluate and process information received (both internal and external)
- Perform critical yield calculations to determine plan viability
- Create illustrations in line with Adviser recommendations
- High level liaison between providers and clients where necessary
- Perform case analysis to highlight omissions prior to handover to Paraplanning department
- Preparation of Suitability Reports for Advisers to summarise the outcome of client review meetings
- Maintain the Quality of Documentation standards set out by the company
- General supporting administration
Person requirements
- Previous experience of working within professional or financial services sector (no previous paraplanning experience required)
- Have commenced the pathway to Diploma qualification
- Excellent attention to detail and strong technical skills
- Ability to manage own workload
- Desire and commitment to progress personally within financial services
- Articulate, numerate and able to maintain the highest degree of integrity and confidentiality
- Able to work under pressure and meet specific time deadlines
- Strong team player with a can-do attitude towards the daily challenges of a busy practice
- Strong technical / analytical skills
- High level of computer literacy, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
- Highly numerate (maths skills)
Additional information
- Salary: £22-28K (depending on experience and qualifications) starting salary.
- Qualifications: Support to complete the Diploma in Financial Planning. There shall be incremental salary increases upon successful completion of individual qualifications.
- Bonus: Discretionary based on overall business and individual performance.
- Location: Brailsford, Derby (DE6 3)
- Hours of work: 9.00am – 5.00pm Monday to Friday (once fully trained, option to work from home for 2 days a week)
- Holiday entitlement: 20 days per annum, plus bank holidays (increases over time)
- Pension: Generous pension provided.
