The Woodland Trust is the UK’s leading woodland conservation charity. We want to see a world where trees and woods thrive for people and nature. The Trust engages and inspires people to make their difference tackling the nature and climate crisis helping protect, restore and create our vital woods and trees.

THE ROLE
The Communications Officer will be responsible for the delivery of the Lost Woods of the Low Weald and Downs project which is a 5-year programme of activity supported with funding from the National Heritage Lottery Fund (NHLF). It is a partnership project led by the Woodland Trust, with Action in rural Sussex, Small Woodland Association and Sussex Wildlife Trust. The project aims to bring life back to the forgotten and fragmented ancient woods in Sussex. Working with our partners and the local community, we aim to transform the landscape to boost biodiversity and revitalise traditional woodland management.

The Communications Officer will be required to create and deliver the annual communications plan, working closely with partners to promote activities and events, write, edit, co-ordinate and publish content across various channels, including the website, social media, and print and online marketing materials. They will look to maximise opportunities to promote NLHF’s funding and the support from National Lottery players.

This is a 5-year fixed term contract to December 2027. This is a part time role working 2 days a week, you must live in or within short distance of the project area in Sussex.

THE CANDIDATE
You’ll have proven communications and/or digital skills with experience of managing social media pages and working with content management systems. You’ll have experience of website development with the ability to write for different audiences.

You’ll be analytical, self-motivated, and proactive and be able to build and nurture effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders in order to deliver on multiple projects and programmes.
