Position Overview & Specifications

Location: Hybrid working from home and Vision RCL, Redbridge Central Library, Ilford, Essex IG1 1EA and branch libraries as necessary.

Redbridge Libraries is an award-winning service managed by Vision RCL. We are looking for a creative, engaging and highly motivated individual to join the Culture & libraries team as a early years librarian. You will be working to stock 11 libraries which sits at the heart of the Redbridge community and offer free access to a large range of books, DVD, newspaper etc.

As an Early years Librarian, your focus will be to help develop, deliver, and promote library services in Redbridge, ensuring programmes and resources are representative of and meet the needs of Redbridge’s diverse communities. Your focus will be on manage stock for early years, parents and families, to ensure that the children of Redbridge get the best start to their reading journey.

Job requirements:

  • Help develop, deliver, and promote library services in Redbridge, ensuring programmes and resources are representative of and meet the needs of Redbridge’s diverse communities.
  • Support implementation of key strategies for libraries.
  • Develop and deliver development projects that support the Universal Offers, Children’s Promise and Child Friendly Redbridge programme on behalf of Redbridge Library Service with a specific focus on Early Years and families.
  • Report on performance and undertake performance improvement initiatives in relation to libraries and cultural service provision.

Essential requirements:

  • Demonstrable experience of working in a public library or similar organisation.
  • Qualified or chartered librarian or demonstrable equivalent level of competence through experience.
  • Awareness of current new developments and initiatives in the library world.

  • Management: 1 year (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

  • Driving Licence (preferred)
