Position Overview & Specifications

We are seeking a highly motivated Postgraduate Research Assistant to work with a post-doctoral fellow investigating the role of novel candidate genes in cardiovascular disease using in vitro cell based models, molecular and biochemical techniques. You will report to Associate Professor Gillian Douglas on a day-to-day basis and ultimately to Professor Keith Channon. You will be based in the British Heart Foundation laboratories in the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics, a state-of-the-art research facility on the University’s Old Road Campus, adjacent to several other large research buildings and adjacent to the Churchill Hospital site.
You will perform and analyse experiments, e.g. Western blotting, PCR, qRT-PCR, HPLC and gather, analyse and present qualitative and/or quantitative data from a variety of sources and contribute to wider project planning.
You will also be required to hold a a BSc 2:1 or higher in a relevant discipline (i.e. Biochemistry, Molecular and Cell Biology or Natural Sciences) and show a willingness to work with tissue generated from in vivo models. Evidence of experience in histology would be desirable.
This is a full-time appointment on a fixed term contract until 31st July 2026 in the first instance.
