Position Overview & Specifications

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Information Resources Librarian to join the Bodleian Law Library at the University of Oxford. Together with the Faculty of Law, the Bodleian Law Library is situated in the St Cross Building on Manor Road. It is one of the largest libraries in the University and one of the leading academic law libraries in the UK.
You will manage the Information Resources section of the Bodleian Law Library. This will involve managing a team of five staff and overseeing cataloguing and acquisitions work. Working closely with the Bodleian Law Librarian, you will assist with the management of the Bodleian Law Library’s extensive print and electronic collections. You will play a role in the operational management of the Bodleian Law Library. You will also deal with research enquiries and provide training for colleagues and readers.
You will either have a librarianship qualification or equivalent professional experience. You will have an excellent understanding of print and legal resources. A proven track record of managing staff and leading a team is essential. Considerable experience of using an integrated library management system for technical services operations is vital. You must also be able to work collaboratively with a wide range of colleagues. You should have excellent written and oral communication skills, have experience of delivering training and a good grasp of financial management. Good organisational and project management skills are needed.
This is a permanent, full-time position, working 37.5 hours per week. The regular working pattern is Monday to Friday between 8:45 and 17:15. Occasionally assistance with evening duties between 17:00 and 19:00 will be required. Some bank holiday working is also essential.
This role requires lifting and carrying boxes of library materials, pushing trolleys, climbing ladders and kick-stools in order to access some of the library’s bookshelves and to re-shelve materials.
The University offers a generous pension scheme. Annual leave is 38 days per year including bank holidays and University fixed closure days; there is an option to buy additional leave. You will benefit from the Bodleian Law Library’s institutional membership of the British & Irish Association of Law Librarians (BIALL).
Our staff and students come from all over the world, and we proudly promote a friendly and inclusive culture. Diversity is positively encouraged, through diverse groups and champions, as well as a number of family-friendly policies, such as the right to apply for flexible working and support for staff returning from periods of extended absence, for example shared parental leave.
You will be required to upload your CV and a supporting statement as part of your online application. Your supporting statement should list each of the essential and desirable selection criteria, as listed in the job description, and explain how you meet each one. CV’s alone will not be considered.
Only applications received online before 12:00 midday (GMT/BST) on Wednesday 5 April 2023 can be considered. Interviews are expected to take place on Friday 28th April 2023.
