Lecturer in Engineering (2 posts) - Grade 8

The School of Engineering seeks to appoint two new members of Teaching and Research (T&R) academic staff in any field of engineering research with significant mathematical content. The posts are part of a substantial new investment in staff and facilities within the School of Engineering. You will be expected to establish an independent research activity which contributes to, and enhances, our current internationally leading research in the Aerospace, Civil or Mechanical Engineering divisions; with special expertise in the application of numerical analysis, simulation or modelling in these fields.

This appointment is a potential opportunity for either `early career¿ or more experienced candidates. You will already have an established track record of academic endeavour. This will include papers in internationally leading journals in your field, and the ability to attract significant funding from a range of sources. You should have experience of working within a multi-disciplinary environment and the potential to develop an independent research activity which complements the existing research groups within the School of Engineering.

We are looking for two enthusiastic academics who are passionate about the student experience both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels; and who will support the growth of our current research-linked teaching portfolio across Aerospace, Civil and Mechanical Engineering. You will have a PHD in an Engineering discipline.

As part of this post you will join a team of lecturers to develop and deliver a curriculum and pedagogy for teaching engineering mathematics across the Aerospace, Civil, Industrial Design and Mechanical Engineering programme areas. This team will focus on both fundamental mathematics for First Year undergraduates; and more advanced, specialist topics for more senior undergraduates and postgraduate students. We are seeking lecturers who will take a creative approach to reforming our learning and teaching in this area, drawing on innovative best practice from the HE sector and elsewhere.

These posts will also involve individual research project supervision; leading small group pastoral tutorials; leading a co-curricular programme of mathematics support; and a range of administrative duties in the School.
