Position Overview & Specifications

The Applied Social Science Group within the Primary Care Unit are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated research assistant/associate to a project that explores the mental health treatment provided to young people with experiences of maltreatment or other safeguarding needs.

The successful candidate will collaborate with research and experts-by-experience collaborators to undertake quantitative analyses of administrative data to understand access to treatment and what treatments are effective. We are looking for someone capable of working responsively to research needs and opportunities as they arise, and with a desire to influence policy for children and families through research.

The successful candidate will join a friendly and supportive team, led by Dr Robbie Duschinsky. This team includes clinicians from various professions (e.g. clinical psychology, general practice, social work) and researchers from across disciplines (e.g. primary care research, epidemiology, sociology, psychology).

The postholder will be well supported in their professional development, with opportunities for developing skills and knowledge. The Investigators will work with the postholder to develop a bespoke training and development plan that will focus on the skills and experience they need to make the most of the opportunities afforded by the project and to progress their career. The postholder will also be supported to apply for funding and opportunities relevant to their future career development.

Where a PhD has yet to be, awarded appointment will initially be made at research assistant and amended to research associate when the PhD is awarded (PhD needs to be awarded within 6 months of the start date). If an individual has not submitted a PhD or is not working towards one they could be appointed as a Research Assistant if they have either a degree (and/or Master's) in a relevant area or equivalent experience. We welcome applicants with lived experience of use of young people's mental health and/or social care services as a service-user or parent/carer.

The research will largely be undertaken remotely within the UK, but there will be regular opportunities for in-person meetings with members of the research group.

There is flexibility on start date.
