This is a great opportunity for personal and professional development, to extend knowledge and skills of working with children with complex physical and learning needs.

You will work as part of the team to assess the health needs of school aged children and young people with additional health needs and learning disability; promoting healthy lifestyles through effective health education programmes and contributing to wider public health agenda in partnership with key agencies and professionals.

You will learn how to complete specialist nursing assessments, plan care and implement interventions to promote the health and wellbeing of children, young people and families with complex health needs. We work as integral members of the Multi-disciplinary Team maintaining responsibility for a designated case-load and acting autonomously as appropriate. Our team positively represents the needs and rights of children and young people, promoting equality and assisting access to NHS and any other services.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

All nurses carry a caseload which includes primary and secondary aged children & young people and are expected to assess the health needs of the school community and meet those needs through multi-agency working, provision of health promotion activities, staff training, liaison with parents & carers and referrals to appropriate agencies as required.

You will formulate care plans in partnership with children, parents and in liaison with members of the wider multidisciplinary team regarding medical conditions and emergency treatment. You will promote public health principles in school and the community through effective partnership working, policy development and curriculum planning.

Staff are expected to : participate in and support the provision of 'drop in' sessions within schools for children and parents; follow Trust and NMC guidance on confidentiality at all times; contribute to education review meetings; contribute to Education and Health Care Plans and at all times promote inclusion for children with learning disabilities and complex needs.

We encourage nursing students across all community areas and all staff should be able to identify and respond to their learning needs. All staff are expected to actively participate in day-to-day supervision including clinical and safeguarding supervision, appraisal, 1 to 1s and NMC revalidation.
