Tate’s vision is to serve as artistically adventurous and culturally inclusive art museum for the UK and the world. The next five years will see a shift in Tate’s workforce to more closely reflect the UK population. This will require a step change in the attraction and selection of staff and the creation of more diverse talent pipelines for Tate and the sector. One of the ways Tate will achieve this is by creating apprenticeship opportunities that provide high-quality work-based learning experiences.

Tate is now offering two exciting apprenticeship opportunities with one based at Tate Modern and another at Tate Britain. Working with the curatorial teams you will support and co-ordinate the delivery of selected exhibitions, Collection displays, film and performance programmes, commissions and events, ensuring appropriate and ongoing communication across departments to deliver projects successfully, within budget and to the highest standard. You will also support the development of Tate’s Collection.

These apprenticeship opportunities at Tate are only open to candidates who have not already completed a degree and who are not in the process of completing one. However, you must have a minimum of one year experience of working in the arts, gallery/museum sector or social engagement and community arts

To apply for these apprenticeships, you will possess a demonstrable interest and enthusiasm for modern and contemporary art and a strong desire for and willingness to work towards a successful curatorial career. You will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, with rigorous attention to detail and a proactive, problem-solving attitude and an ability to build relationships with colleagues.

As an apprentice you will spend a minimum of 6 hours training/learning per week as part of your apprenticeship. This might be taking part in a taught session, shadowing workplace mentors or learning a specific new skill or knowledge. You will carry out training on and off the job to achieve an MA Curating (Curator Apprenticeship) which is a level 7 non-integrated higher degree. This will be done through MIMA and the School of Arts and Creative Industries, Teesside University. The course is delivered through three intensive weeks at MIMA alongside online tutorials and seminars. You will be supported through the course with an allocated workplace mentor, University academic tutors and 12 weekly meetings with the apprenticeship mentor to support your learning and development.

Details of the qualification can be found on the university website here: https://www.tees.ac.uk/postgraduate_courses/art_&_design/ma_curator_(degree_apprenticeship)_.cfm

If you have any particular enquiries around the course do contact the course team (Prof Sarah Perks and Dr Paul Stewart):
SACI-HDA@tees.ac.uk

Teesside University will be hosting an online open day for those interested in the role and qualification on Wednesday 22 March 12.00 – 13.00 and 17.00-18.00. These Q&A sessions will be hosted by course leaders, Dr Paul Stewart and Prof Sarah Perks. To sign up to attend, please email SACI-HDA@tees.ac.uk

Teesside University rules for all apprenticeships at Level 7 state that an apprentice must have achieved a Level 2 certificate in English and Maths (GCSE grade 9 to 4 or A* to C) before the apprenticeship commences.

**Interviews will be held week commencing 15 May 2023**
