Position Overview & Specifications

This environmental legislation consultancy works with clients across a range of sectors (for example construction or property businesses), and tries to make real change environmentally on a daily basis. They have a very good record of employing graduates. It’s somewhere you can feel proud to work, knowing you are making a difference.

It’s a friendly team with a mix of ages and backgrounds, and laid-back, with a fun and sociable working environment. However, at the same time, they are also highly professional and technically focused (and you will have ongoing learning and development; and in time, there are other areas you can get involved in, as the business likes the team to be multi-skilled). The senior management team are accessible and encourage ideas and discussions.

The offices are based in a quirky and interesting building - a converted Brunel warehouse, powered by PVs and next to the water on Bristol Harbour. There is free-parking available. Or if you prefer a more sustainable travel there is a company cycle scheme in place (and shower rooms to freshen up), and there is a office bike provided for quick trips to the shops.

The business offers flexible, hybrid, working; with annual salary and regular progress reviews to make sure you are happy.

You will be helping to deliver existing and new contracts, learning and delivering BREEAM assessments, which are effectively the project management of the environmental aspects of construction. BREEAM is the World’s leading environmental rating system and assessment method for buildings and infrastructure projects.

You will also be working on Life Cycle Assessments, which assess the lifetime environmental impact of a building.

It’s not a problem if you have not had any experience with these, but some knowledge of what they are would be ideal (it's easy to do an online check).

You will be working on a range of projects, and completing assessments- a lot of it will be around counting numbers of toilets and windows for example, so excellent attention to detail is needed.

You will be providing sustainability related advice, including where improvements can be made so assessments will be passed. This will include report writing, and communicating with clients, architects, engineers, and contractors. You will be able to use your lateral thinking and problem solving skills.

The business can offer years of career progression and technical development that will challenge and inspire you. You will quickly be given responsibility to manage your own work and time, with the support of friendly and knowledgeable team members.

This is very much about the built environment, not the broader environmental field. In terms of degree type, something Construction, or Architecture, or Project Management related would be ideal.

The plan is for two start dates, one in March and one around September.
