Position Overview & Specifications

Skills Provision is commencing recruitment for a Senior Structural Design Engineer for a UK-based building services company.

Located in Northern Ireland the employing business has operated for nearly 20 years across commercial, residential, education, healthcare and more.

For this role, the company will provide visa sponsorship if required.

£50,000 – £65,000 p/a

Working Hours

  • 38 hours per week
  • Mon -Thu: 08:00 – 17:00
  • Fri: 08:00 – 15:00

Role Responsibilities

Reporting to the Head of Design, daily duties include:

  • Develop designs in line with the client’s requirements, adhering to relevant British, European and industry standards
  • Create high-level design packages using relevant software e.g. AutoCAD
  • Act as a representative for the design team in company meetings
  • Prepare and analyse structural reports, design calculations, structural analysis models etc
  • Work collaboratively with other disciplines
  • Visit the customer sites and suppliers
  • Keep abreast of the latest industry developments
  • Carry out additional tasks and duties as directed by management

Requirements

Education:

Degree in structural/civil engineering or equivalent qualification

Chartered Engineer status with Institute of Structural Engineers or similar

Essential skills and experience:

  • 5 years of relevant experience
  • Well-versed in legislations, standards and working practices for the UK/Europe
  • Knowledge of design across common building materials e.g. steel and concrete
  • Experience in FEA modelling such as SimSolid or similar
  • 3D design environment is essential, working to BIM protocols
  • Experience in design development and cost analysis for manufacture
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Well organised with an analytical approach to work
  • Comprehensive write and verbal English skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and analytical skills
  • Commercial appreciation, dealing with various stakeholders

Desirable:

Experience in:

  • The design infrastructure for district heating networks
  • Design of self support structures like flue masts
  • Assessment of ground conditions
  • Deep well drilling and geothermal applications
