Offshore Project Engineer

Siemens Energy have an exciting new opportunity for an Offshore Project Engineer.

Passion for Renewables -you desire to work on offshore renewable projects – design, build, install, deliver Offshore Substations for Offshore Wind farms.

Inspired! You are inspired by new ideas, technical and also non-technical.

Engineering background – background in any engineering field, ability to grasp engineering concepts, ask searching, detailed questions and through that form a good understanding of a technical problem.

Project background – worked on a construction project onshore or offshore as an engineer, team lead, technical lead, subject area lead, project engineer, etc. or similar, where you had to lead topics, convince customers, chair a meeting with different interface participants, and different parties with their own interests.

Communication – able to articulate ideas clearly, convince and influence by listening and asking, then responding accordingly.

Develop – want to develop as a person in leading, presenting and influencing, contract management and terminology, technical breadth and deliver large offshore substation projects.

Siemens Energy, based in Manchester, UK, delivers transmission solutions predominantly for the UK market. Further to that, we are the center of competence for AC offshore substations for Siemens Energy, hence extending our remit to the global Offshore AC substation solution requirements for Siemens Energy globally. On DC technology, we work collaboratively in mixed teams with Siemens Energy in Hamburg to develop solutions and deliver DC projects in the UK

At the proposals /tender stage:

You will be handling the procurement of two key supply chain packages for an offshore substation. This entails firstly, compilation of scope of works, division of responsibilities, interface documents, contractual and technical information from the various internal teams. Thereafter, engaging with the supply chain prospects and running the supply chain selection process – RFQs, offer comparison, clarification of offers.

Core skills: Organised, Attention to detail, and great at interacting with different people.

You will be understanding customer requirements, fielding queries and chairing meetings with the customer focusing on the scope of the supply chain packages.

Core skills: Able to grasp technical concepts relatively quicker than others, ability to ask searching questions and filter out key information, eloquently able to convince and influence an audience.

At the project delivery stage:

You will then be working in a project team for an Offshore Project Manager, to own the technical engineering interfaces between our internal engineering team and the other supply chain packages (not limited to the two key supply chain packages above)

Core skills: Able to clearly set out a plan and implement it with a team of people with different expertise.

You will then continue to lead and manage the supplier and be the main interface point for Siemens Energy, as the supplier moves to the installation and commissioning phase of the project. This period often requires a regular presence at the supplier’s site, mainly in the UK or within mainland Europe.

Core skills: Able to visualise a process in real life on a site or assembly yard, Ability to focus and prioritise issues and actions without getting distracted.

Finally, you will support the offshore works required for the completion of the offshore substation out at sea. This is a short but intensive period, and you will be working in tandem with the Offshore Project Manager to ensure the team carrying out the offshore works are led and well supported at quayside or on the rare occasion on a large sea going vessel.

Core skills: Good at solving logistical puzzles, Ability to understand different constraints and risks and balance them accordingly, good decision-making mind.

Throughout the stages of the job described above, you will be well supported with experienced people available for you to seek advice, support, learn from previous experiences but also to challenge them on standard practices that may be out of date.
