Research Support Librarian

We have an exciting opportunity for a research support librarian to join our team. We are looking for proactive individuals with an understanding of research, to help our researcher community achieve excellence.

Post holders will form part of a small forward-looking team, providing services to staff and doctoral students in support of the research strategy of the Library, which focuses on promoting Open Research and supporting research excellence.

The team works in the areas of scholarly communication and open access, including electronic theses and the Research Excellence Framework (REF); research data management; information skills for researchers, including induction of new staff and students; research insight and the responsible use of metrics in research assessment; the promotion of open research practices in the institution. In addition, the team maintains our publications management system (Symplectic Elements), our research data repository (SHURDA), and our journal publishing system (Sheffield Hallam Journals). The current focus of our work lies in starting a conversation in the institution around Open Research, and the rollout of rights retention for all scholarly papers.

You will proactively engage with the researcher community, and act as liaison with several departments and research institutes. You will support all areas of work within the team but take the lead in one or more of them. It will be an advantage if you already have an understanding of some of our main areas of work, but it is not a requirement: you will be given the opportunity to develop in-depth expertise where necessary. We are aware that the world of library research support is continuously changing, so we are looking to build a flexible team with a varied skills set.
