Job description

Information Advice and Guidance Adviser

Further opportunities have been created enabling us to grow our Information, Advice and Guidance service. Are you passionate about supporting young people, do you have experience and are you committed to achieving positive outcomes? Sheffield City Council Community Youth Services wants you!

Community Youth Services is made up of several youth engagement services that seek to support young people where they are at. We are community based enabling youth provisions to be directly delivered in communities.

Sheffield is committed to providing an outstanding offer outside of formal education, providing consistent professional career management, Information, Advice and Guidance support to enable our young residents to thrive.

We are looking to recruit a dynamic, enthusiastic and well organised Information Advice and Guidance (IAG) Adviser to provide careers information, advice and guidance to support young people to engage in post-16 education, employment, or training. Working alongside colleagues within the councils wider Community Youth Service, advisers will have a caseload of young people who they will support to set and achieve personal goals. Key elements of this role will be to identify and remove barriers to engagement in post 16 learning and to provide advice and guidance around the range of options available.

Advisers will be expected to deliver at young people’s homes, schools and within local community settings to make support accessible.

Our ideal candidate will come from a careers background or have relevant experience in delivering careers advice, with a willingness where necessary to work towards a Level 6 qualification in IAG. We are open to various backgrounds and experiences. Previous applicants for our earlier positions are welcome to reapply.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and safety of children and vulnerable adults and expect all staff to share this commitment. Any successful candidate will be required to complete an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check.

We are investing in our workforce and are promoting opportunities to our under-represented groups.

We value equality, diversity and inclusion and are focused on increasing the diversity of our workforce, particularly the number of Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic, Disabled and LGBTQ+ people, so that our teams reflect the communities in the city we serve.

We are also supporting staff with unpaid caring responsibilities to work flexibly. It is a great time to join us and we welcome your application.

Under the Disability Confident Scheme, disabled applicants, who meet the essential criteria of this job, are guaranteed an interview.

Full-time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday entitlement.

We are open to discussions about a wide range of flexible working opportunities which benefit you and the Council, including reduced hour contracts, working part time or as a job share.
