Microbiology Technician

Microbiology Technician - Wigan - Permanent - up to £26,000

My client is looking for a Micro Technician to join a large FMCG manufacturer in Wigan.

Hours of work:

4 days on 4 days off (12 hour shifts average 42 per week)

Experience:

• Minimum 2 years’ experience in a lab based environment OR if you are coming straight from University they will consider this
• Minimum GSCE qualifications in Maths, Science and English with A-Level or HND a preference in a Science related subject

Summary of role:

General Tasks

• Environmental sampling including swabbing and water sampling
• Finished product testing
• Completion of hand written records and the transference of those in to Excel
• Taking part in audits
• Calibration of equipment
• Take part in improvement projects to move the lab forwards in alignment with the business needs
• Work with 3rd party labs where required to support workload and investigations
• Interest in future validation work, developing methods and looking at new testing techniques
• Training of others on test methods
• Manage stocks of raw materials and communication with suppliers
• Ability to step up to cover some of the senior techs responsibilities in the event of absence

Skills

• Must be familiar with Aseptic technique
• Must be able to priorities workload and be able to understand business critical needs
• Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
• Must be computer literate with good IT skills in Microsoft programs in particular Excel and Word. Experience using an MRP system and other business management systems is favourable but not essential
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Good organisational and time management skills
• Ability to adapt to changing situations in a positive and flexible manner.
• Ability to take the initiative, be pro-active in their approach to work and take ownership of their actions
