Position Overview & Specifications

Pearson Gape Farming Partnership – PGFP is a 470Ha family farming business in Caxton, Cambridgeshire. Over the last seven years the farm has undergone a transition to a nature-friendly, regenerative farming system incorporating techniques including direct drilling, cover crops and agricultural technologies to improve the farm’s soil. As part of the farm’s development, it is also heavily involved within the local farm cluster. With ambitious goals to further develop the farm and its soil and natural capital, we are seeking a member of staff to help with the day-to-day running of the farm.

The successful applicant will be practically involved in all aspects of crop production, as well as having ample opportunity to develop, train and be involved within other areas of the business. Involvement in assisting with farm cluster activities and farming research projects may also be required, along with environment and nature-based activities as the farm moves into new stewardship schemes. Key roles include:

  • Drilling with John Deere 750A and Weaving Sabre Tine
  • Spraying with 24m SAM (to be updated in September 2023)
  • Fertiliser application using Bogballe M35W
  • Mole draining and subsoiling, where appropriate
  • Operation of Case Axial Flow 9250 with MacDon header
  • Grain store management
  • Loading of lorries and other telehandler work
  • Hedge cutting
  • Hedge, tree planting and environmental/woodland work
  • Corn carting, and any other aspect of normal farm work, within reason

Applicants will ideally be qualified with PA1, PA2 and PA4, although training can be provided for the right person. Further to this, applicants should demonstrate:

  • Passion for farming, and interest in regenerative practices and the environment
  • A safety-first work ethic, conscious of their safety and those around them
  • Experience with modern arable farming and the operation of large machinery
  • An eye for detail and pride in their work
  • A pragmatic approach and confidence to put forward ideas and solutions
  • An understanding of agricultural technology, and willingness to learn more
  • Good mechanical knowledge and the ability to keep machinery clean and maintained
  • A flexible approach to work, understanding the seasonality of the role offered
  • The ability to work from their own initiative and alone, as well as alongside others and as part of a team

In exchange, we offer a flexible and friendly working environment, along with:

  • A competitive salary
  • Accommodation in a sought-after area within catchment of excellent schools
  • A vehicle for travel to and from work, and between farm sites
  • Training and development, catered to both business needs and individual interests

All applications will be treated with the strictest confidence.
