Position Overview & Specifications

Are you enthusiastic? Motivated? Caring?

We are looking for a compassionate individual to join our nationally recognised and expanding Oxfordshire Child & Adolescent Eating Disorder Service as a Dietician. Our well-established service aims to deliver high standards of care to young people and their families, with an emphasis on continuous improvement and participation.

This is an exciting time to join our team. We have recently launched our new Enhanced Care Pathway supporting young people in the community with acute needs of treatment to support them to remain in the community. We are also pioneering innovative ways to better support children and young people with autism and eating disorders which has prompted the Launch of our PEACE pathway.

You will be expected to:
  • Advise on meal plans for all patients within the service by negotiating and agreeing dietary changes with young people and their guardians using appropriate advanced counselling, motivational and cognitive behavioural therapy techniques. A family centred approach is adopted to help patients overcome behavioural and emotional factors that prevent lifestyle change.
  • Actively attend and participate in clinical and multidisciplinary meetings.
  • Participate in the management of weight and health restoration programmes. Provide individual or group education on nutrition, metabolism, weight management and goal setting to young people and their guardians.
  • Develop, formulate and implement policies, standards, patient information and teaching materials
  • Communicate effectively and work collaboratively with health care professionals and other organisations e.g. Oxford University Hospitals and GPs, to ensure a co-ordinated and evidence based approach to the delivery of the nutrition and dietetic targets within the national and local health agenda
  • Have active involvement in departmental meetings and discussions
We offer specialist internal and external training relevant to the job role. We are a research active service and there are many opportunities to continue to develop both clinical and professional competencies within this role. We offer family-based and individual interventions including treatment for co-morbid mental health difficulties, allowing team members to develop and maintain a broad set of clinical skills alongside specialist interests.

You will be based in Oxford and be supported to develop expertise in working with young people with eating disorders. The post sits within a passionate and experienced multidisciplinary team and within the wider CAMHS. In addition to direct clinical work (assessment and intervention), this role provides service development and leadership opportunities such as, teaching, training, consultation, supervision, and audit/service evaluation.

Benefits of working for Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust include:
  • Excellent opportunities for career progression
  • 27 days annual leave, plus bank holidays, with an increase to 33 days with continuous service
  • NHS Discount across a wide range of shops, restaurants and retailers
  • Staff accommodation
  • Competitive pension scheme
  • Lease car scheme
  • Cycle to work scheme
Ideally you will have experience of working in CAMHS services, however, if you have transferrable skills and are motivated to learn about our client group we would encourage you to apply.

Please note:
  • New starters have a 6 month probationary period. This, together with the induction process aims to create a positive supportive working environment allowing new employees to learn key elements of their role over a reasonable timescale.
  • Candidates not currently employed by the Trust who attend an interview for non-qualified Band 1-5 posts are required to undertake numeracy and literacy assessments.
  • Appointment to this post is subject to the trust receiving satisfactory references covering 3 years of employment or study. Please ask your referees to respond promptly to reference requests.
  • Employees are expected to undertake mandatory and statutory training related to their role.
  • We positively encourage applications from all areas of the community, regardless of gender, race, faith, disability, age or sexual orientation and we encourage applications from users of mental health services. This is part of our commitment to equality and reflecting the diversity of our population.
  • Oxford Health is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults, we expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
