Position Overview & Specifications

Due to internal promotion, we are seeking two qualified information professionals with experience of working in a library or information service, to join our busy Knowledge and Information Service. We seek out and disseminate evidence and learning around how children can be better protected. We respond to the varied needs of a wide range of audiences working with, or on behalf of, children through our specialist library collection, enquiry service and NSPCC Learning website.


Our new Information Specialists will lead on either:

  • Supporting the promotion and delivery of our library and enquiry services to NSPCC staff and external professionals including, answering complex enquiries and undertaking in-depth literature searches; developing user inductions; enhancing our intranet pages; producing promotional materials such as resource lists and blogs; monitoring and reporting on enquiries; and maintaining internal procedures and training resources.
  • Supporting the development of our specialist library catalogue by cataloguing, indexing and abstracting a range of electronic and print resources; assisting with monitoring and quality checking of cataloguing work; assisting with the management, development and promotion of the National case review repository; and participating in the development and enhancement of the library management system and online catalogue.

All Information Specialists undertake weekly enquiry and cataloguing duties and assist with the promotion of our services.


We are looking for applicants with:

  • Outstanding customer service skills who can confidently communicate with a variety of service users
  • Great attention to detail
  • Experience of searching bibliographic databases and web resources
  • Experience or knowledge of cataloguing
  • Experience of using a library management system
  • The ability to write and present complex information clearly and concisely for different audiences.

You will have the opportunity to work independently and use your initiative; lead on small projects; and be part of a friendly and supportive team to develop your skills and make a real difference to the lives of children.


These roles are suitable for hybrid-working, with 3 days per week in the NSPCC Library in London, or more if you choose.
