Assistant Practitioner or Nursing Associate in Lung Cancer

The working days are Monday to Friday

An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint either a Assistant Practitioner or Nursing Associate to complete the team of 6 soon to be 8 Lung CNS’s, 2 pathway nurses and 2 assistant practitioners. This role will be for the NE Sector of NCA (Fairfield, Rochdale and Oldham).

The very well established lung cancer nursing team aims to provide a high quality service which is evidence based to support lung cancer and mesothelioma patients and their families/carers. Through collaborative working with members of the multi-disciplinary team, they provide specialist nursing intervention, specialist psychological, emotional, social, practical and financial support which is responsive to the patients and families’ needs and is equitable and accessible to all.

The Lung Cancer Nursing team work very closely with all staff involved in the care of cancer patients but, in particular Respiratory Physicians, Oncologists, Ward staff and other Lung Cancer MDT members. The team liaise closely with both tertiary and primary care partners. The team are required to work with patients who present either via the two week wait referral system or present acutely to the service.

The objectives of the team are to:

  • Provide support to patients and their families/carers from diagnosis through to palliative care by providing education, information, resources.
  • Provide support to staff caring for patients with lung cancer and mesothelioma.
  • Liaise with primary, secondary and tertiary centres

Essential requirements


  • The post-holder will be be either a qualified Assistant Practitioner with a foundation degree or a qualified Nursing Associate
  • Ideally been Working in respiratory/oncology speciality recently for at least 2 year.
  • The role will require excellent communication and interpersonal skills, good organisational and administrative skills
  • You must be able to communicate effectively at all levels, ability to use own initiative and be enthusiastic and hard working. Can work well under pressure and remain calm in difficult situations and the ability to work with distressing information
  • Access to transport / car driver as will be required to work on different site

  • Can work well under pressure and remain calm in difficult situations
