Position Overview & Specifications

Salary: Scale 5/6, £25,758 - £30,375 subject to confirmation. *Please note: Grading for this role is currently under review. Depending on the outcome of the review the grading may be increased to Scale 6, however this is not a guarantee.
Location: Knaresborough Police Station. Agile working for a proportion of shifts can be accommodated, once the initial training requirement have been met.
Hours: 37 hours per week, standard office hours Monday to Friday
Contract: Permanent

Do you have experience of complex information gathering and problem solving? Are you able to break down a problem into component parts and determine appropriate action in investigations and enquiries?

We are looking for an Intelligence Development Officer to join the Anti-Corruption Unit where you will work as part of a dedicated team which helps maintain the integrity of NYP.

The ACU is responsible for the covert investigation of corruption, misconduct, and integrity related matters within NYP.

Working within the framework of the National Intelligence Model, the Professional Standards Control Strategy, Force wide priorities and the Regional and National NPCCAG priorities for Anti-Corruption Units you will be responsible for the development of information received and enquiries that come into the unit, together with participation in a broad range of prevention and early intervention activities.

As Intelligent Development Officer you will work alongside internal and external partners including the IOPC, on specialist investigations of a sometimes complex and extremely sensitive nature. This will involve assisting in the investigation of professional standards and anti-corruption matters involving NYP employees including gathering evidence, taking witness statements, interviewing, preparing casefiles and making recommendations for possible criminal and disciplinary action.

You will be required to submit applications for surveillance or telecommunications data and monitoring of Force-wide computer assets via Lawful Business Monitoring and the subsequent review of technical data returned from these enquiries. In addition to seizing, examining, retaining, and disclosing all material generated by investigations to ensure that they are managed in accordance with legislation and policy.

You will be expected to plan and identify your own investigative actions required and consider resources, priorities, and proportionality to achieve investigatory objectives and act as a subject matter expert and point of reference on professional standards and anti-corruption issues to internal and external partners.

Requirements:
  • Strong inter-personal and communication skills including the ability to listen, adapt language, form, and message to meet the needs of different people and audiences.
  • Able to proactively develop effective working relationships.
  • Experience of complex information gathering and problem solving.
  • Able to break down a problem into component parts and determine appropriate action.
  • Confidence in the use of various IT systems, packages, and databases.
  • Good team working skills demonstrating awareness of individual differences and providing support as required.
  • Able to plan own work and plan ahead, as well as identify and mitigate risks to delivery.
  • Able to produce clear and concise reports and other documents within best practice procedures.
