The Role & Team
The education transport team is responsible for providing home to school transport support for more than 400 children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) each school day, both to schools in the local area and some that are out of area.

We are seeking to recruit casual/relief passenger assistants, to support children and young people on home to school transport. Transport arrangements vary from children requiring 1:1 support in a taxi, to shared taxis and minibuses with 10 or more children. The number of hours each week will vary depending on availability, school and type of transport to be covered.

Although initially on a casual/relief basis initially it is expected that regular work/school runs will be available very shortly with the potential to result in more permanent employment, if suitable and appropriate.

About You
You must have experience of working with children, in a personal or professional capacity, ideally with children with SEND, but this is not essential. You should have the ability to effectively communicate and engage with children and young people, providing a service that meets their needs.
You may also be responsible for assisting drivers to load/unload wheelchair users, use special equipment and a range of restraint systems. Appropriate training will be provided.
It is essential that you have a flexible approach to working arrangements, be available at short notice and at the start and end of the day school day.

Key dates
Interview date: 22 June 2023

Start date: In line with our ‘Day One: NEL Induction Process’, we would like to aim to have the successful candidate in post by 4 September 2023

(However, this may be subject to change and will of course be dependent on your notice period and relevant pre-employment clearances being completed)

Apply for this Role
All applicants are advised to carefully read the information provided in the Role Profile and Person Specification, and evidence in your application how you meet the essential criteria.

If you require an informal discussion about the role please contact Kerrie or James on 01472 326291 (option 2)

This is a frontline position (the duties of the role require you to be based solely from an office and/or council location)
