Position Overview & Specifications
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified HCPC registered, Specialist Biomedical Scientist with experience working in Cellular Pathology. You will join our busy department based at University Hospital Crosshouse Crosshouse, Kilmarnock within the Area Laboratories for NHS Ayrshire and Arran.
Specialist Biomedical Scientist (AFC Band 6) / Trainee Biomedical Scientist (Utilising Annex 21 conditions - this can be discussed during interview) in Cellular Pathology.
The department handles approximately 30 thousand requests, 33 thousand biopsy samples and 70 thousand blocks of tissue annually. We also provide a full mortuary and autopsy service to the hospitals, community and Procurator Fiscal; Pathology services for the South West Scotland Breast Screening Service and technical support for the Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) service. We have also recently implemented digital pathology.
You should be an enthusiastic and motivated individual, with an IBMS accredited Honours Degree and IBMS Specialist Diploma in Cellular Pathology or provide evidence of experience working at specialist level. The post is fully rotational through each of our laboratories (Histology, Cytology and Immunocytochemistry) and you will receive thorough training and gain experience in a wide range of techniques and morphological skill. Active participation in CPD and opportunities for further study are both supported and encouraged.
Consideration will also be given to candidates who possess an IBMS accredited Honours degree in Biomedical Science or a newly qualified Biomedical Scientist (under Annex 21 conditions) who would receive full specialised training and be expected to complete the IBMS registration portfolio and/or the Specialist Diploma in Cellular Pathology.
