We are seeking Band 5 Theatre Practitioners to join our Theatre Teams. The Theatre sites within the DATCC Directorate in NHS Lothian are located across The Western General Hospital and Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, as well as St John’s Hospital in Livingston and the Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion.

Theatres can be an intense fast paced environment of days, nights and weekend shifts, with a team working ethos being at the heart of the services we provide. If you are a Band 5 Registered Nurse, or Registered Operating Department Practitioner and would like to join one of our busy but friendly units, this might be the post for you, and we would look forward to welcoming you into our team.

We offer a range of training beginning with NHS Lothian’s perioperative practitioner programme for those new to the department and continuing professional development opportunities supported by the multi disciplinary team within each Theatre site.

St John’s (SJH) theatre department in Livingston provides specialist surgical services for Southeast Scotland including Maxillofacial, ENT, Burns and Plastics, Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Orthopaedics, Urology, General, Hand, Ophthalmic and 24/7 emergency theatres.

The Princes Alexander Eye Pavilion (PAEP) in Edinburgh city centre delivers specialist ophthalmology services

The specialities on the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh (RIE) site include Obstetrics, Gynaecology, Cardiothoracic, Hepatobiliary, Upper GI, Transplant and Organ Retrieval, Vascular, Trauma, Orthopaedic, Neurology as well as our 24/7 emergency theatre. The site has recently become a Major Trauma Centre and the department are developing Robotic Surgery programmes.

Theatres within the Western General (WGH) undertake, colorectal, urology, breast surgery and 24/7 emergency theatre. The team are used to being at the cutting edge of technology as one of the first units in Scotland to establish a Robotic Urological service using the DaVinci Robotic system and thereafter were the first team in Europe to use the innovative Versius robotics.
