Position Overview & Specifications

30 hours per week, term time.

  • Secondment opportunity / fixed-term for 20 months due to funding.

An exciting opportunity has arisen within our Public Dental Service (PDS) for a part time Dental Health Support Worker to join our dynamic team. We are looking for a highly organised, individual who will assist in the delivery of the Childsmile programme. This is a national programme funded by the Scottish Executive to promote and improve the oral health of children in Scotland.

The post holder will be an essential member of the Public Dental Service team and will work with the local dental teams to improve the oral and dental health of the local population.

Working as part of the multidisciplinary team the post holder will visit nursery and primary schools to support delivery of activities designed to support oral health.

The DHSW will provide a link between education staff, parents, local dental practitioners, community and Oral Health Promotion staff.

The DHSW will support families to access dental preventative and treatment programmes for their children. A key duty will be to deliver the toothbrushing programmes across Forth Valley in accordance with the Oral Health Strategy.

Candidates should be motivated and have strong people and communication skills, be able to interact on all levels and be flexible with the ability and willingness to travel across NHS Forth Valley. You should have a moderate degree of computer skills and be a strong team player. If successful, a full induction will be tailored to meet your needs within this role.
