St John’s Hospital (SJH) is a large teaching hospital with an established reputation for offering the best practice across a wide variety of specialist services. Aseptic Dispensing at St John’s Hospital provides a 5day service for systemic anti-cancer treatment (SACT) to cancer patients. The St John’s Hospital cancer unit is part of the Edinburgh Cancer Centre (ECC) providing day-case and outpatient cancer services. The pharmacists on the unit are an essential, highly valued and integral part of the multi-disciplinary team delivering systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT) services to a broad range of oncology and haematology patients. The successful applicant will work closely with senior pharmacy colleagues and the multidisciplinary team to deliver high quality pharmaceutical care for cancer patients.

We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic pharmacist to join the pharmacy team delivering the highest quality pharmacy services across these areas. The successful post holder will undertake a split post as Deputy Accountable Aseptic Pharmacist and Specialist Clinical Pharmacist for Cancer Services at the Edinburgh Cancer Centre based at SJH.

As Deputy Accountable Aseptic Pharmacist, the postholder will work closely with the Lead Pharmacist for Aseptic Services and Advanced Cancer Care Pharmacist. The postholder will have a specialist focus SACT manufactured within SJH pharmacy. As a specialist cancer care pharmacist, this post holder will contribute to the continued transformation of the clinical pharmacy service across the ECC pharmacy service in the delivery of care to cancer patients..

Candidates must have a Master of Pharmacy Degree or equivalent, must be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), and should have completed the Post-Registration Foundation Programme or equivalent competency.

Candidates will have experience pro-actively influencing prescribing within a secondary care environment and will have gained experience working in a patient focussed environment using their knowledge and skills to improve patient care and promote optimal outcomes from medicines. Further, aseptic experience is essential.
