Position Overview & Specifications

We are looking for an experienced, motivated, and skilled Dietician. The role will provide a highly specialist service for clients within Learning Disability services who may not be able to access mainstream services across Northeast London.

The post holder will;
  • need to be able to prioritise their referrals and balance the caseload according to complexity of need.
  • be expected to work with all members of the multi-disciplinary team, to ensure effective joined up partnership care and interventions occur.
  • liaise with other services within the NELFT with a focus on Learning Disability services.
  • liaise closely with a variety of external health and social care providers such as the local authority, education and employment agencies, Police, Primary Care Staff, Charitable and voluntary organisations and other health care providers
  • Work in partnership and in collaboration with key stakeholders to co-produce plans and strategies in educating service users regarding diet-related disorders, disease prevention and health promotion.
  • Be involved in the development of relevant policies and guidance in easy read versions, as appropriate, to support a Trust wide strategy.
There will be an opportunity to get involved in steering group work and Pathway developments.

Aim of the role

The post holder will be responsible for providing Specialist Dietetic assessment, interventions for the Learning disability services which include interpreting and communicating the science of nutrition into practical dietary advice, promote nutritional wellbeing, treat disease and prevent nutritional related problems to support recovery of people with a Learning Disability. The post holder will be expected to support their team, department and organisation to achieve the Trust’s Values in their day to day work.

The post holder will work closely with the wider dietetics service inside and outside of the Trust, and will be involved in steering group and MDT representative meetings

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focussing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

High Cost Area Supplement

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £4,108 to a maximum of £5,177).

Summary of the Role

The post will lead the implementation of a highly specialist dietetic service to our service users with a learning disability, identifying and managing nutritional risk and supporting and training staff where identified as a need. This involves working with patients and multi-disciplinary team (MDT) to identify and address the psychological, physical and social factors that may affect compliance with dietary treatment.

  • The post holder will be an integral part of the multidisciplinary teams, delivering intensive support to people and their families, providing nutritional advice, education and training to nursing staff, doctors, and other health care professionals and clinical supervision to dietitians working within the mainstream services in other areas of the Trust where identified as appropriate.
