Position Overview & Specifications

From the bustle of the UK's second city to the big skies of the Fens, the varied landscapes you’ll cover in this exciting role will make sure no two days are the same. Covering four counties of Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire, Birmingham and Warwickshire you'll manage a wide-reaching team in truly varied places.

This is a full time, permanent role offering £64500 - £68500 depending on fit for the role.

What it's like to work here:Reporting to the Regional Director for the Midlands and East of England region, you'll be a part of the regional management team, working together to bring the national strategy to life in all the places you’re responsible for.

As the role covers a wide geographical area, you'll need to travel regularly. We’re happy for you to work at any of our offices in the Midlands and East of England region. If you also wish to work some of the time from home, we can try to find an arrangement that strikes the right balance for you and the Trust.

What you'll be doing:First and foremost, you're a leader. You’ll manage a team of General Managers who run a variety of places. From a moated manor house to a landscaped deer park. From back-to-back houses to an organic farm. You’ll support, coach and mentor your team, helping them to make the best of the places in their care, and to give a great day out to everyone who visits.

You won't just be working with your team, but with colleagues from across the organisation. You’ll use your ability to build and develop positive relationships to help the Trust do more throughout the Midlands and East of England.

You'll own the operations across this diverse region, working to deliver ongoing conservation work, and finding new ways to share this with people. As a senior leader in the region, you’ll be leading large projects, working with specialists from all areas of the Trust.

The Trust was founded on the belief that nature, beauty and history are for everyone, so a priority for us today is making sure that we’re an inclusive place to work, and that everyone feels welcome at the places in our care.

You’ll champion an inclusive and fair approach to all and find new ways to provide access for all at the places you look after.

Who we're looking forIt's a big job, and you'll be learning something new every day. We'd love to hear from you, if you can demonstrate:

  • Inclusive leadership skills, with the ability to coach and mentor a widely dispersed team
  • Experience of leading complex and varied operational teams
  • Credibility with external partners, able to build and develop mutually successful relationships
  • Experience of project and programme delivery across a wide range of subject matters
  • An understanding of – or curiosity about – the historic or natural environment, culture and heritage, and the challenges of managing visitors and conservation
  • Understanding of financial planning and budgeting

The packageThe National Trust has the motto ‘For everyone, for ever’ at its heart. We’re working hard to create an inclusive culture, where everyone feels they belong. It’s important that our people reflect and represent the diversity of the communities and audiences we serve. We welcome and value difference, so when we say we’re for everyone, we want everyone to be welcome in our teams too.

  • Flexible working whenever possible
  • Employee assistance programme
  • Free parking at most locations
