Position Overview & Specifications

The Children's Speech and Language Therapy Service provides assessment and intervention for children and their families across Stoke on Trent, Newcastle, Moorlands, Stafford and Siesdon in Health Centres, Children’s Centres and Special schools/settings.

You will provide general clerical and administrative support to the Childrens Speech and Language Therapy Service.

  • You will provide clerical support, including typing of correspondence, reports etc as required.
  • You will input patient information to Service’s database and initiate replies to standard and routine enquiries or as directed.
  • Answer the telephone, take and pass on messages and respond to general enquiries, from other agencies such as Social Services and Education Authorities.
  • Exchange information with patients and carers regarding appointments.
  • Take telephone calls from patients with communication disorders of various types.
  • Accept telephone referrals to the Speech/Language Therapy Service using the department’s ‘triage’ protocol.
  • You will exercise judgement when dealing with patient and carers enquiries, including complaints, to pass these on to more senior colleagues as needed.
  • Carry out photocopying of clinical materials, reports, letters etc.
  • Maintain patient filing system.
  • Open, date stamp and distribute post and collate post for internal and external mail systems.
  • You will maintain appropriate standards of Health and Safety as per Trust Policies and to adhere to other Trust policies and standards.
  • You will work as part of the clerical team but also be able to occasionally work on own initiative when colleagues are absent.
  • You will be working in a busy office with frequent interruptions from staff or telephone calls.
