Position Overview & Specifications

Position: Lock Keeper

Place of Work: Port Solent Marina

Shift rota is 4 days on (12 hour) – 4 days off – 4 nights on (12 hour) – 4 days off – and repeat

Salary £23,000 - £25,608

About the role and responsibilities.

To operate the locks and bridges at Sovereign Harbour, along with allocating berths to visiting vessels. The Lock Keeper is responsible for vessel traffic service information and navigational safety. Ensure at all times Havenstar is up to date with available berths and visitor allocations.

Lock Keepers are expected to deliver first class customer service and to assist with other areas of the marina when needed. Sovereign Harbour is a Statutory Harbour Authority, Lock Keepers form an intrinsic part of the various duties and responsibilities associated with that.

Operational:

Operate the locks on demand or to a pre-agreed schedule with the Manager

Operate the bridges on demand or to a pre-agreed schedule with the Manager

Conduct marina level top up’s as required

Operate vessel traffic service information to vessels arriving and departing the harbour in terms of navigational safety (depth, weather, tidal information, lock availability, vessel movements etc)

Respond to emergencies and incidents and to follow the emergency incident protocol.

Ad hoc towing or driving of vessels

Administrative

Allocate berths to visiting vessels and to manage the available berth picture at all times.

Cover the front desk and answer the phones when needed

Take payments and reconcile the tills

Undertake berth checks

Complete periodic inspections and safety equipment checks

Vision of Success

Other General Requirements

To deliver excellent customer service in line with current policies and procedures

Maintain high standard of cleanliness and maintenance on site

Assist with boat towing and driving of boat as required

To proactively assist in the sales process for the marina’s services and products

Operate marina software systems in line with current procedures

Work with the boatyard team to conduct lift & launch operations

Be vigilant to the security and safety of any person on the marina

Maintain marina safety equipment and submit periodic checks

To carry out additional tasks as may be considered fair and reasonable
