Position Overview & Specifications

Are you looking to work in a community setting but do not want to lose your intrapartum skills? Or you may prefer to be based in the hospital but would like to spend a day in community each week, either way, we are looking for experienced Midwives to complement our existing teams.

You can even split between hospitals, working some hours in UHL and some in QEH, for example, community at QEW and core at UHL.

We would welcome applications from midwives who are competent and confident at facilitating and supporting women/birthing people antenatally, intrapartum and postnatally to have the birth they want.

We are looking for dynamic, inspirational midwives to transfer their existing skills and interests to our services.

Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust facilitates care to over 7500 mothers/birthing people and their babies every year. We have a busy obstetric units supported by beautiful co-aligned Birth Centres on each site. The Lewisham Site being named a beacon site by the Midwifery Unit Network (MUNet), 2018.

Our whole maternity service is exciting and innovative and due to this, we have continuously received a CQC rating of ‘Good’ since 2017. We currently have official accreditation of being Baby Friendly Units, Level 3 on the UHL site and Level 2, working towards Level 3 on the QEW site.

You will be required to assess, develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care, as the named care provider and support with the care of all clients on the ward / unit as required.

You will be competent in providing the necessary care and advice to your client dependent on the situation and area you are in.

You will be competent to conduct deliveries under your own responsibility and care for the newborn, whilst having a sound knowledge in all areas of midwifery care.

You will be responsible for ensuring your own continuing professional development and other development activities are completed each year and have completed a preceptorship programme.

You will be an effective communicator with the ability to provide support for the shift co-ordinator to ensure the effective running of the ward/unit in their absence.

You will be required to provide daily clinical and managerial leadership to midwifery and support staff in the delivery of evidence-based client centred care.

Our diverse client population provides constant challenges while we strive to deliver the highest standard of care. We have considerable expertise at caring for women/birthing people with complex and high-risk needs. Our specialist midwives consistently provide the highest standard of multi-agency care.

We have Consultant midwives on each site who work together to support our staff to support the women/birthing people accessing our care to achieve the birth they want.
