The Team

We are the Early Support Team. We are an ambitious and developing service, seeking innovative and creative ways of working to deliver the best possible Early Support Service to the children, young people, families, and communities of Kirklees. Our ethos and drive are to do well for the families we work with; to make Kirklees a safe place for children to grow and thrive.

To achieve the best outcomes, we need strong, well-led teams, that are encouraged to develop both professionally and personally, through effective support and challenge.

That’s where you come in.

We are looking for 2 Family Support Team Leaders who have experience of working to support families and the motivation to drive the continuous improvements we want for our service.

The Role

As a Team Leader you will manage a team of experienced Family Support Workers, work closely with partners and ensuring the delivery of a quality Whole Family service across the Kirklees district.

You will be responsible for the case management of your team, assigning cases to family support workers and supporting your team with any assistance they need to handle the cases.

The Family Support team helps families dealing with challenging situations, you will provide effective case oversight and safeguarding support to ensure that families are receiving the right support at the right time. For this reason, you will need a good understanding of safeguarding.

You will have the people skills to communicate effectively with a wide range of people, from the families we work with to the partners that play a vital part in the support network around them. We work closely with other teams within early support, schools, social care and health care providers.

You will work in an evidence-based way to ensure support for families is of good quality and delivers improved outcomes for children, young people and their families at the earliest opportunity to prevent problems becoming entrenched or escalating.

Our services are delivered following the restorative approach as we find this helps us to achieve the best outcomes for children and their families.

For a full list of the role requirements please see the attached Job Profile and Job Focus Sheet. As part of the application process you will be asked to demonstrate how you meet the employee specification, which you can find on the Focus Sheet.

Working pattern

The role is mainly office based, but there is some flexibility for home-working. Monday to Friday, with some out-of-hours cover required: at the moment, this will be two weeks on a rota basis, twice a year. Evening and weekend working may be required, however the need for this is rare.

You will be required to work from a base in one of the four localities: Rural; Huddersfield; Batley and Spenborough, and; Dewsbury and Mirfield, however you may be required to work across Kirklees.

What can we offer?

  • Generous annual leave entitlement
  • Friendly and supportive team environment
  • Ongoing training and career development
  • Excellent pension scheme
  • A range of family friendly polices, including flexible working and working from home
  • Discounts with local and national retailers
