Position Overview & Specifications
Principle accountabilities:
a. To ensure the maintenance of a healthy and safe working environment through:
· Actively contributing to the assessment, monitoring and review of both health and safety procedures and information resources;
· Keeping up to date with current procedures and practices through continuing professional development;
· The provision of technical advice and support on health & safety issues to teaching staff;
· The safe treatment and disposal of used material including hazardous substances and responding to actual or potential hazards;
· The healthy and safe storage and accessibility of equipment and materials.
b. Contributing to the design, development and maintenance of specialist resources and/or long-term projects;
c. Ensuring the availability of suitable materials and equipment, to compile orders and liaise with suppliers. This will include sourcing, costing and suggesting economic alternatives to maintain stock levels, and keeping up-to-date records of stock;
d. Ensuring that both routine and non-routine checking, cleaning, maintenance, calibration, testing and repairing of equipment are carried out to the required standard;
e. To feed the animals in the department and clean out the terrariums so that the animals are kept in a healthy condition and to arrange for someone to care for the animals over the holiday periods.
f. Any other duties required by the Head of Department and Assistant Head Curriculum.
The accountabilities above will be achieved by carrying out the following activities:
g. Preparation of practical equipment for lessons, assembling apparatus;
h. Obtaining materials by local purchase;
i. Delivering equipment to rooms and clearing away equipment;
j. Checking fume cupboards, first aid kits, eye protection and glassware;
k. Organising, storing and checking the condition of chemicals and equipment;
l. Arranging checking of electrical items and other safety checks;
m. Carrying out and arranging for the maintenance and repair of resources;
n. Constructing and modifying apparatus;
o. Preparing standard solutions and treating waste;
p. Checking stock, ordering stock and keeping stock records;

Job Type: Part-time
Part-time hours: 12 per week
Salary: From £10.42 per hour
