Interdisciplinary Education is a new and growing team at King’s which is responsible for the development and launch of new strategic initiatives that will transform students’ experience of King’s within the framework of the University’s Strategy. Among these is an interdisciplinary first year module that enables students to develop critical perspectives and skill-sets that optimise their learning at King’s and beyond.

Interdisciplinary Education is a cross-King’s initiative which brings together academics from across our faculties with a central team within the Students and Education Directorate. SED is a collection of wide-ranging professional services in place to support King’s students and their education. As a directorate we manage the student lifecycle from application to graduation and beyond, to ensure a coherent and seamless student experience and effective administrative processes, working closely with King’s faculties to do so.

The Lecturer in Interdisciplinary Education will initially lead our first year module which is expected to become available to most King’s students in the next few years. Working closely with the interdisciplinary team, the module leader will contribute to the design and delivery of this module, in collaboration with participating departments across the College. The postholder will sustain their own scholarship relating to teaching, and inclusive and interdisciplinary teaching, using this to inform ongoing innovation and collaboration with faculty colleagues from a wide range of disciplines.

This post will be offered on an indefinite contract. The role is on the Academic Education Pathway which is focused on the delivery of education, education-related scholarship, and leadership in education.

This is a full-time post, but we welcome applications from candidates wishing to undertake part of it on a fractional basis. There is a possibility of two candidates from different disciplines, reflecting a range of subject offer at King’s, undertaking this post as 0.5 FTE each.

This is currently a hybrid working role with both work from home and on campus. The role will be based in our department, currently at Bush House, with a requirement to travel to other campuses.

Skills, knowledge, and experience

• PhD in any disciplinary or interdisciplinary field

• Experience of designing interdisciplinary curricula and inclusive teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level

• Deep understanding of the principles and practices of fair assessment in higher education

• Capacity to work collaboratively as part of a diverse team

• Commitment to and/or experience of working in multi-disciplinary research and teaching

• Experience of leading educational development/curriculum development with peers with sensitivity, clarity and awareness of the educative potential of diversity

• Experience of teaching one or more modules and coordinating the work of peers in team teaching and assessment (Grade 7)

• Teaching qualification relevant to Higher Education, or a commitment to undertake this

• Knowledge of the UK higher education environment, especially related to student experience, inclusive and interdisciplinary education

• Higher Education Academy accreditation or commitment to acquiring this
