Position Overview & Specifications

The role of Assistant Estimator is responsible for working with project surveyors and help with the managing of the commercial aspects of each development.

The Assistant Estimator will report to the Commercial Director.

Principal accountabilities of the role include:

  • Produce take off from drawings using BlueBeam and Excel
  • Manage ongoing design and layout changes and report these to the commercial manager.
  • Calculate earthworks quantities from CAD drawings
  • Complete on-site measurements and assess payments to contractors.
  • Attend and contribute to various meetings, such as project review meetings with construction team as well as external contractors.
  • Assist the Commercial Manager managing quotations from suppliers and contractors

Experience, Qualifications and Skills

Experience

  • Experience of working as with a residential house builder or groundworks contractor is beneficial

Qualifications and Training

  • HNC/HND in relevant Building Studies preferred
  • GCSE Grade C/4+ or equivalent in English and Maths

Skills and Aptitude

  • Strong communication and listening skills, with good negotiation skills
  • Highly motivated to deliver quality developments
  • Ability to work on own as well as part of a team
  • Excellent attention to detail and demonstrates ability to meet deadlines
  • IT literate (Excel and BlueBeam predominantly) and the ability to adapt to new systems
  • Some experience with CAD would be beneficial
  • Good administration skills
  • Committed to diversity and inclusion
  • Punctual and organised

The Role and Working Conditions

  • Willing to be flexible in respect to day to day duties and hours worked.
  • Office based role.
  • Ability to travel to development sites as and when required.

Education:

  • Certificate of Higher Education (preferred)

Experience:

  • surveying: 1 year (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

  • Driving Licence (preferred)
