Job Title:
Food Microbiology Technician
Department:
Microbiology
Normal Hours:
37.5 per week, sometime between the hours of 8am and 7pm Monday to Sunday.
Reports to:
Laboratory Manager
Direct Reports:
None
Job Purpose:
To prepare and extract samples for contaminants testing.
Primary Role and Main Duties:
- To prepare samples for laboratory testing via homogenisation, filtration, extraction or dilution as required
- To perform extractions and minor analysis of contaminant samples
- To prepare reagents for the testing of samples
- To provide support in the instrument room when required under the supervision of analyst and/or senior staff
- To prepare containers for logistics, including cleaning and maintaining the Contaminants Laboratory
- To ensure that all audit actions that arise in the area of work are actioned within the timeframe
- To ensure that all work areas are kept clean and tidy and laboratory consumables are maintained at the designated stock levels
- To ensure that all waste products within the Contaminants Department are disposed of in the correct manner, ensuring adherence to Good Laboratory Practice
