Position Overview & Specifications

Manager - Affordable Home Ownership

A bit about the role...

Working in a team with Tim Sullivan, our Senior Manager Affordable Housing Products, the Manager Affordable Home Ownership Products will play a critical role in supporting delivery and oversight of the Agency’s affordable housing investment as part of the Affordable Housing Grants team. You will be joining a small but enthusiastic and friendly team, who are committed to making positive change in how affordable homes are delivered.

Tim believes in delivering a first-class customer service to our internal and external stakeholders, working in a collaborative way to foster good decision making and problem solving.

The Manager role supports the Senior Manager AH Products and the wider team answer a broad range of questions about our affordable homes programmes and resolve complex technical issues. Working with key stakeholders internally within the Investments Directorate and wider Homes England functions, plus externally with Government Departments and the housing sector.

We are looking for a person who can build and maintain effective relationships, deal with uncertainty whilst finding an answer to an issue or problem, and actively collect insight into the affordable home ownership market to continuously improve our services.

A bit about you…

Whilst our day job is to deliver first class customer service to our internal and external stakeholders, you will be used to working on multiple and diverse workstreams simultaneously and will always be looking for ways to improve and innovate.

You will be resilient, confident working on your own and have a flexible/can-do attitude being prepared to step-in to support other colleagues within the team when required. You will be comfortable taking advice and instructions and be an excellent planner to prioritise your work to meet deadlines. You’ll also have a great eye for detail, and be able to maintain accurate records and databases.

With a background in affordable home ownership, you'll have experience and knowledge of the sector and the strategic and operational environment in which grant programmes operate in. Using this experience, you’ll be expected to support or lead projects, answer queries about the affordable housing programme, undertake research and analysis, produce technical guidance, write briefings and present papers with recommendations.

You’ll have a focus on delivering results and be an excellent communicator – being able to negotiate, persuade and confidently provide advice and guidance on affordable and specialist housing to stakeholders at a more senior level.

What we offer...

We understand how important life is outside of work so, as well as competitive salary and 33 days annual leave, we are totally committed to flexible working. We’ll support you, wherever possible, so that you don’t miss out on what truly matters to you.

If you do ever need a little bit of extra help we have a great employee assistance programme, financial well-being support and access to loads of great discounts with leading high street names.

Our range of network groups are also there to support you to truly be yourself at work and play a key role in helping shape our future.

If you are a member of a professional body we’ll pay for your membership and once you get your top of the range digital kit you’ll be good to go in one of our great offices.

Who are we?

We are the Government’s national housing agency. Our role is to accelerate the pace of house-building across the country, particularly in areas where there are the most serious affordability issues – meaning people are struggling to find homes.

We have the appetite, influence, expertise and resources to drive positive market change and meet the Government’s ambition to deliver 300,000 new homes a year. We are using our land, influence, funds and knowledge to increase the pace, scale and quality of new homes accelerating delivery in areas of greatest demand and helping create great places to live. Within the next few years, we will have invested over £27 billion across our programmes. To deliver against these aims we’re building a different kind of public service - join us to help make this happen.

We would encourage all applicants to apply as soon as possible as we may close vacancies early should we receive a high number of applications. We also encourage you to apply using the full application option as opposed to quick apply, this is especially important if you would like to indicate to us that you would like to be considered under the disability confident scheme.

If your application is shortlisted to interview we will require you to provide proof of your right to work in the UK at that stage.

Homes England are a geographically diverse community. We are all hybrid working at the moment spending some of our time working from home and some based at our offices which are spread across England. The wellbeing of our colleagues remains one of our top priorities.
