Position Overview & Specifications
You will be joining the service at a time of change for North Manchester mental health services as all wards will soon be moving to a new, purpose built building. You will have a central role in supporting the service during this period of transition and will work with managers and clinicians to ensure that clinical models are psychologically, and trauma informed.
You will be joining a GMMH psychology team which is well established with great links to local universities, there will good research and CPD opportunities.

To provide clinical leadership and line management to the adult inpatient psychology team in North Manchester. To provide strategic leadership and support to the adult inpatient psychology teams across South Manchester, Salford, Bolton and Trafford.
- Lead a team of qualified and assistants working across 5 acute wards and 1 psychiatric intensive care unit in North Manchester
- Have clinical oversight of the work of the team and ensure that robust governance is in place, providing performance reports to managers as needed.
- Carry out job planned clinical work on the wards at North Manchester and provide clinical advice and consultation for staff working with the most complex and risky service users.
- Work closely with very senior managers to ensure that the model of psychological service delivery is effective, in line best practice and with national and local goals and guidance
- Work with the consultant lead in Wigan work to develop a community of practice across the Trust.
We provide inpatient and community-based mental health care for people living in Bolton, the city of Manchester, Salford, Trafford and the borough of Wigan, and a wide range of specialist mental health and substance misuse services across Greater Manchester, the north west of England and beyond.
As a senior psychologist you will join a community of psychologists working into adult and older adult inpatient services. You will be well supported by the consultant clinical lead and work as part of a team other senior colleagues across the Trust. The psychology services in GMMH have very close links with local training courses and there will be a range of CPD opportunities to support your career development.
- To be responsible for the planning, promoting and delivery of the psychological component of mental health service delivery in the inpatient services at Park House / North View in accordance with the Trust's vision and values.
- To lead on the planning, development and organisation of a range of complex specialist psychology services in accordance with needs, the developing evidence-base, NICE guidance, and Department of Health policy.
- To be responsible for carrying out high level and complex psychological assessments and brief interventions within the specialist area
- To take a lead on complex cases and provide support and supervision for junior staff and trainees working with complex cases
- To aim to enhance the practice of non-psychologist colleagues, in their understanding and handling of psychological issues through supervision, teaching and training, and formulation of complex needs.
- To hold line management responsibilities within the inpatient service in general and the psychology team in particular, which will include responsibility for workload allocation, recruitment and retention
- To represent psychological services at Clinical Governance and Risk Management meetings relevant to service need.
- To advise Service and Professional Leads on any professional and clinical matters relating to the practice of psychological therapies.
- To advise the service manager, Head of Operations; service and care group Senior Leadership Teams on those aspects of the service where psychological and/or organisational matters need addressing.
