Position Overview & Specifications
As a specialist school nurse assistant you will be a highly motivated individual with a nursery nurse qualification or equivalent NVQ level 3 in child care. The successful candidate will work as part of the multi-disciplinary team providing safe, effective and high quality services to school aged children and families, using research based evidence to ensure all care is child centred and family focused. The post holder will have a responsibility for assessment and implementation of continence strategies for a specific caseload of children and young people, Knowledge around continence issues for children with complex needs is desirable.
Under the guidance of the specialist school nurse, there will be an expectation to participate in annual health assessments, immunisation, and medical clinics for children and young people who attend specialist schools. Contribution of health information to EHCP for individual children will also be required as guided by the team lead or specialist school nurse.
They will provide training to educational staff and a wider children’s workforce on health conditions, predominately continence issues so that there is effective care provided across the special school settings and main stream schools.
The post holder will have excellent communication skills, some experience of working across multi-disciplinary/agency teams, community experience is desirable. Knowledge of safeguarding child policies and procedures is essential.
