Position Overview & Specifications

Developer

The company is a state-of-the-art Hair and Oral Fluid Drug and Alcohol Testing organisation based in Cardiff. Our team pioneered hair testing 25 years ago and today offer a modern, fast and class-leading service. The Lab is UKAS Accredited to ISO/IEC 17025 and offers the UK’s largest catalogue of accredited hair tests. The environment is quick paced and busy, with continuous investment in internal training and product development.

We are seeking an experienced C# Developer to help with the ongoing development of our Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). This is an exciting chance to work in a company that has ambitious continued growth plans and demonstrates great pride in nurturing a working culture that allows employees to progress and develop new skills.

The Role:

We are seeking a C# Developer to help with the ongoing development of our in-house LIMS application. This is a business-critical system which runs all areas of the lab operations from end to end. The application is currently written in Access/VBA and is in the process of being ported to C# over the next 12-24 months. The role will require some support work in VBA, particularly in understanding how the application works when porting this to C#.

Required Skills:

· 3+ years commercial development experience.

· C#/.NET/Entity Framework.

· MS SQL Server/T-SQL.

· Design patterns such as MVVM.

· Agile development.

· Automated testing.

· Exposure and experience of VBA, or a willingness to learn this.

Desirable skills:

· Azure DevOps + CI/CD.

· Using and implementing API’s and Web Services.

· XHTML & CSS.

· ASP.NET.

· Domain-Driven Design

· GDPR regulations.

· Pharmaceutical sector experience.

· Knowledge of IT infrastructure.

· Knowledge of IT Security.

Personality attributes:

· Passionate about software development.

· Good communication skills.

· Positive attitude and willingness to work collaboratively.

· A pragmatic approach to problem solving with a focus on customer service.

Developer core responsibilities:

· Collaborate with the other team members in the development of the current in-house LIMS application, and porting this from Access VBA to C#.

· Support of existing LIMS systems users.

· Build, test, and deployment of new releases using Azure DevOps and CI/CD.

· Writing user Stories, technical specs and design documents.

· Liaising with the business to deliver user stories.

· Working to in-house coding standards and design guidelines.

· Demonstrate a high level of software craftsmanship and commitment to quality.

· Liaising with the outsourced Managed Service Provider regarding IT issues.

Working Conditions:

In return we will offer an excellent rate of pay and 25 days annual leave. There will be a probationary period of up to 6 months. You will be expected to make yourself available for work between the hours of 9am - 5pm for a 35-hour week.

The role will be split between Head Office (based in Pentwyn) and home, predominantly more office based initially and then more home based as experience in the internal systems are gained.

Cansford is currently trialling an optional flexi-day off every three weeks, where the normal working day is extended slightly allowing the accrued time to been taken as part of a long weekend every three weeks.
