Position Overview & Specifications

CHAS has recently been selected as the only Scottish organisation to receive a generous grant from The British Gas Energy Trust to support families across Scotland during the current cost of living crisis. We have been awarded grant funding until March 2024 and from this award we are looking to recruit two Energy Advisors to offer support to the families of babies, children and young people with life limiting conditions who are referred to CHAS services.

The recruitment to these new Energy Advisor posts will further enhance the support on offer to families known to CHAS at what is an extremely difficult time for families across Scotland. The post holders will work alongside the existing Family Support Teams in both Robin and Rachel House. They will provide one-to-one intensive support for families to proactively offer advice on energy efficiency, tariffs and saving money for all families who use CHAS services, as well as reactive support in emergency situations maximising money available to families in crisis situations.

CHAS Energy Advisor will receive:

  • Option to opt into generous pension scheme

  • Generous annual leave entitlement

  • Excellent learning and development opportunities

  • Regular facilitated supervision sessions

  • Employee assistance programme

The CHAS service:

  • Two children’s hospices, Robin House, Balloch and Rachel House, Kinross.

  • An Outreach Service providing support to children and families in their own homes, hospitals and communities across Scotland

  • Co-partnership working with Scotland’s three children’s hospitals

The job:

  • Inform the development of a new energy advice support service as part of CHAS’ overall family support service.

  • Work as part of a team to provide one to one service to families from a wide range of backgrounds to help maximise energy efficiency and household incomes.

  • Help families understand energy bills, energy tariffs, energy metering, energy usage and practical ways to reduce energy usage with energy saving tips.

  • Understand the criteria of all available energy grants and energy schemes and assist families in making appropriate applications

  • Maintain up-to-date, working knowledge of sustainable energy matters and affordable warmth.

  • Establish relationships with partner agencies to expand CHAS’ impact and reach.

The post holder will hold a City and Guild qualification in Energy Awareness or relevant/equivalent qualification and have experience of working within the energy advice sector. They will work closely with the Family Support Team leaders to ensure that families receive an individualised, high standard of support.
