Position Overview & Specifications

We are looking for enthusiastic and committed psychological well-being practitioners to join Hillingdon NHS Talking Therapies to support service delivery and expansion including vibrant community outreach and an innovative webinar programme.

We are a large, friendly and well established team with good training and development opportunities, providing individual and group based LI CBT and HI CBT and HI Counselling, including excellent Perinatal, LTC-Covid and developing Young Person's provisions.

Applicants must have completed PWP training from an accredited Low Intensity course, have experience of working in an IAPT service, working culturally sensitively with diverse backgrounds and possibly delivering therapies in other languages. Trainee PWPs qualifying within 3 months and expected to pass all course requirements, are welcome to apply.

Assessments and interventions are delivered face to face, by video or telephone. PWPs are expected to deliver psychoeducational groups and workshops and be involved in community outreach projects. The post holder will receive regular clinical as well as case management supervision and support from the Senior PWPs, Step 2 Leads and qualified High Intensity therapists.

We offer flexible working dependent on service needs, combining remote and site working, between the service opening hours of 8am and 7.30pm, with an expectation to participate in evening clinics. Advertised basic pay includes the Outer London high cost area allowance.

You should be experienced in working in a stepped care service, providing comprehensive assessments and a range of low intensity treatments for the Hillingdon population. We warmly invite applicants from diverse backgrounds, including people who can deliver step 2 interventions in mother-tongue languages as Hillingdon has a large south Asian population and is a very diverse London borough.

The postholder will be expected to participate in extended hours clinics offered by the service. We consider flexible working patterns to meet our usual opening times of 8am to 6pm, and two late evening clinics to 8 pm.

The post holder will be based at the service main hub in central Uxbridge but will be required to undertake outreach work at other areas within Hillingdon. Staff are encouraged to use public transport to come to work. Hillingdon falls within the high cost area allowance with Outer London supplement to basic pay.

Alongside high and low intensity CBT interventions, the service also has a counselling service at step 3 which provides DIT, couples counselling, Counselling for Depression and generic counselling. Individual and group based treatments are provided.

The Hillingdon Talking Therapies service has a strong clinical focus whilst working with local commissioners and integrated healthcare teams to deliver the NHS Long Term plan around multimorbidity and Long Term Conditions. We have a highly successful and thriving Perinatal service. Delivering courses, outreach, online interventions, telephone and face-to-face work are all essential requirements for this post. We offer excellent supervision, case management, a CPD programme in clinical skills and development opportunities for a PWP who is enthusiastic, committed and self-motivated. A mixture of site and home working has resumed and there is an ongoing commitment to support staff with some home working, dependent on patient need and suitability for home working. The service is committed in promoting and supporting staff well-being which has led to several initiatives including keeping well service, team building ‘happy hour’, group exercise, mindfulness practice (to name a few).

The CNWL Talking Therapies Service Hillingdon team has close links with teams within Hillingdon Community and Mental Health Service. There are also wider links with other primary care psychological therapies services within CNWL Foundation Trust and the Trust-wide clinical psychology services. We have good links with and have trainees from all the Regional training courses.

The post holder will provide a range of standardised assessments and interventions to people with mild to moderate common mental health problems in primary care and community settings. This may include facilitating the delivery of Computerised Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CCBT); the provision of guided self-help; using books (Bibliotherapy) and signposting service users to appropriate statutory and voluntary sector services according to their needs.
The post-holder will work under close clinical supervision and will be provided with appropriate support and training. They will be required to provide individual/group interventions, under close supervision, and/or support to GPs and other health professionals in appropriate activities. The post-holder will work with people with different cultural backgrounds and ages, using interpreters when necessary and should be committed to equal opportunities.
The post-holder will work full-time hours and may be required to work at any times between 8am and 8pm on weekdays as required by the service. The post-holder will also be required to participate in evening clinics offered by the service between 5pm and 8pm.
