Position Overview & Specifications
- You will be responsible for CRUK’s legal compliance framework, and related policies/templates/contracts and procedures and ensuring that these are updated, audited, and reported appropriately, to include but not limited to anti-money laundering, and anti-bribery and corruption.
- CRUK occasionally operates beyond the UK, you will work on compliance with local legislation where necessary and in addition map CRUK’s compliance with any relevant sanctions’ requirements.
- You will provide support to the Head of Legal and General Counsel on complying with the Charity Commission’s requirements on serious incident reporting and key regulatory updates from the Charity Commission and working closely with other parts of the business to ensure timely reporting. As well as provide legal and governance support to both the Head of Legal and General Counsel.
- You will work closely with the Head of Risk, Head of Assurance and Assurance team in relation to the development of an assurance framework relating to areas of legal compliance within your remit of accountability.
- Establish and update a legal compliance map and complete ongoing gap analysis.
- Advise on general business law issues and managing legal issues including corporate matters, procurement, health and safety, data protection and governance in furtherance of the legal compliance strategy.
- Keep abreast of relevant laws and regulations and communicate relevant updates effectively to the wider organisation.
- Provide oversight and assurance mapping of the internal legal compliance risks, to include but not limited to, CRUK's litigation risk.
- Develop training programme to educate employees and volunteers on legal requirements and the impact on the organisation of non-compliance.
- Report back to business functions on current legal and compliance performance, highlighting or escalating areas of concern and contribute to robust and effective compliance controls within the organisation.
- Review marketing materials, presentations, and websites to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Assist in the gathering of internal information in response to relevant regulatory requests.
- Collaborate with other departments; Assurance, Risk, Data Protection and ESG to create a collective culture of compliance.
- At least 3 years’ experience in a similar role ideally within the not-for-profit sector.
- Strong legal experience in corporate governance.
- Excellent problem solving, analytical and business intelligence skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in the English language.
- Ability to manage multiple projects adhering to logistics, timescales and deadlines.
- IT literate – MS Office (including Word, Excel and Outlook)
- Strong attention to detail.
- Strong organisational skills; delivering on deadlines and to budget.
- Self-motivation and initiative.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
