Position Overview & Specifications

Location: Brunel University London, Uxbridge Campus

Salary: Grade H2 from: £38,841 to £42,100 inclusive of London Weighting with potential to progress to £45,663 per annum inclusive of London Weighting. (Pro-rata if Part-time)

Hours: Part time 0.8 FTE

Contract Type: Fixed-term 12 months

The Division of Nursing are recruiting a 1-year fixed term Academic Skills Advisor for our Nursing programmes (Apprentice Nursing Associate, BSc Registered Nurse and BSc/MSc Specialist Community and Public Health (Health Visiting, School Nursing, Occupational Health Nursing) programmes. This post has been funded by Health Education England to reduce attrition in Nursing programmes due to academic failure.

The Academic Skills Advisers are professional advisers who design and deliver workshops and one-to-one sessions to support the diverse needs of students from the Division of Nursing. The post is based within the Division of Nursing but you will work closely with the Academic Skills (ASK) Team that is based within University Student Services.

We are seeking a person with experience of student facing support for academically developing Nurses at FHEQ 4-7, in academic writing, reflective writing, numeracy skills for medicines management and study skills.

This Adviser role is in the area of writing and learning, therefore a high standard of knowledge of academic writing conventions, for Nursing, is required. Awareness of the challenges faced by students at different stages of their academic journey is essential, and candidates will ideally have prior experience of teaching study skills in an HE context.

The successful candidate should demonstrate excellent organisational and communication skills; and the ability to work with a wide range of academic staff and students to support curriculum and learning needs. The ability to thrive in a busy teaching environment and willingness to work collegiately are critical to the role. This role will be evaluated as a requirement of the funding award.
