Position Overview & Specifications

Brackley Medical Centre are looking for an experienced Primary Care Healthcare Assistant to join our excellent Treatment Room Team. Working alongside our experienced team, we are looking for a motivated and skilled healthcare assistant for 22 hours per week who loves the challenge of working in general practice.

The hours of attendance would be:

Monday 0830-1830 hrs

Thursday 1400-1830 hrs

Friday 0900-1830 hrs

Main duties of the job

The role of the Healthcare Assistant is varied and fulfilling. An opportunity to run clinics including phlebotomy, minor illness clinic triage, NHS health checks and more. We would like to meet an experienced HCA with a suitable background.

Essential skills: phlebotomy, wound care and NHS Health Checks.

Job Description

Working under the direct supervision of the Nurse Manager and strictly in accordance with specific Practice guidelines and protocols, the Healthcare Assistant will assist the Practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.

Responsibilities

· Simple and complex wound care

· New patient health checks

· Insurance medicals & other related documentation

· ECG recording

· Phlebotomy

· Chaperoning duties

· Blood Pressure Checks

· Flu Clinic immunisations*

· B12 immunisation*

· Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/Nurses

· Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording

· Surgical equipment and vaccine re-stocking and stock rotation

· Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms

· Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions including assisting GPs during the performance of minor surgery clinics

· Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being

· Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual

· Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted

· Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being

· The undertaking of administrative tasks where relevant to assist with practice audits and patient monitoring.

*Desirable not essential and training may be given if deemed necessary

Experience

Essential criteria

Competent in basic nursing duties required for the post Excellent communication skills (written and oral) Demonstrate enthusiasm to develop nursing skills Understanding, acceptance and adherence to the need for strict confidentiality Ability to use own judgement, resourcefulness and common sense Ability to work without direct supervision and determine own workload priorities Ability to work as part of an integrated multi-skilled team

Desirable criteria

Experience of working with the general public Experience of working in a GP practice or primary care Competent in the use of Office and Outlook SystmOne user

Qualifications

Essential criteria

GCSE Maths & English (C or above) Demonstrable commitment to professional development Qualified in Phlebotomy

Desirable criteria

Certified to administer flu vaccinations NVQ Level 2 in Clinical Healthcare or equivalent NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care

Job Types: Part-time, Permanent
Part-time hours: 22 per week

Salary: £10.50-£11.00 per hour
