The Organisation

The Boingboing Foundation is an exciting new charity established to focus on social justice rooted resilience research and practice, and to advance the concept of resilience defined as ‘beating the odds whilst also changing the odds’. We take a co-productive approach to research and activism to provide marginalised communities opportunities to challenge and change the systems that put them at a disadvantage. Our work aims to both develop communities’ capacity to bounce forward from adversity, and reduce the systemic issues causing that adversity in the first place.

Purpose of the role

This role has been created for a ground-breaking project – a Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC) from the National Institute for Health and Care Research. Led by Blackpool Council and Lancaster University, the project aims to address health inequalities by developing a community co-research informed approach across Blackpool.

We will recruit, train and support 10 part time youth Co-researchers aged 16-25 with lived experience of facing health inequalities, so that they can participate to their fullest potential in HDRC co-research activities as equal partners alongside academics and practitioners.

The Co-production Coordinator role will be responsible for holistically supporting the 10 youth Co-researchers both in and around the research activities to enable them to successfully fulfil their roles in the HDRC work, but also to have a broadly beneficial impact on their wellbeing and resilience. You will be available ‘on the ground’ to provide flexible and responsive practical and pastoral support for Co-researchers during the working week, as well as taking care of project coordination and admin. As we hope to recruit those who are often excluded into the Co-researcher roles, it is likely that for some Co-researchers these roles will be their first job. You will lead their inductions, supporting them to navigate professional behaviours and skills, workplace cultures and to develop their confidence and voice within co-productive practices. You will coordinate their ongoing learning and development to provide a stable grounding on which they can thrive in their positions as Co-researchers.

You will be supervised by our Foundation Co-Leads and supported by our Peer Engagement Workers.

Main duties

Provide practical and pastoral support and supervision to 10 young people (16-25) to enable them to thrive in and sustain their roles as Co-researchers within the HDRC project.

Value the expertise of the Co-researchers and all of our community members including the least heard, most vulnerable, and marginalised groups.

Prioritise the wellbeing and resilience of the Co-researchers, building a sense of belonging and relationships of trust. Assist Co-researchers to access appropriate support for key needs that may arise such as housing, healthcare, finances, social care.

Advocate for and empower the Co-researchers within our organisation and across the HDRC project. Maintain open, supportive and collaborative relationships with HDRC and other external partners.

Champion and model coproduction internally and externally to ensure co-production is embedded, working respectfully alongside all people.

Facilitate one-to-one and group support sessions, both formal (e.g., supervision) and informal (e.g., going out for a coffee), alongside our Peer Youth Engagement Workers where appropriate.

Coordinate Co-researchers’ schedules, workload and activities, liaising with project partners as necessary.

Administrative tasks such as email, diary management, timesheets, expenses, document creation and record keeping using Microsoft office, Teams and other standard software. Contribute to project monitoring and reporting.

Contribute to recruitment and training of Co-researchers and lead their inductions.

Facilitate Co-researchers’ learning and development plans on an ongoing basis. This may include occasional travelling/overnight stays with Co-researchers to take part in conferences, courses and other events.

Uphold operational policies such as Safeguarding, Data Protection, Health and Safety.

Maintain an understanding of social justice issues and commitment to campaign for progressive social change alongside young people and communities.
