With almost 60 years’ experience of supporting people with mental health difficulties within our local communities, we continue to challenge the stigma that surrounds mental distress. Birmingham Minds’ core service activities include accommodation-based services such as our 24/7regulated services, community-based recovery hubs, and floating support.

Birmingham Mind Peer Mentoring Programme.

We are looking to attract and recruit several peer mentoring roles to join our Vulnerable Adults Service and our Intensive Community Rehabilitation Service. We can offer both part-time and full-time positions to suitable individuals.

Peer mentors will work in services which support people in the community, both in their own home and supported accommodation which at times offer an alternative to inpatient rehabilitation. We aim to increase independence and social functioning with an overall aim to support the individual’s recovery

Peer mentors will work with a team of support workers/community recovery navigators and use their lived experience of mental health whilst utilising the core principles of peer support, to support service users in their engagement of the service and their recovery.

Our peer mentors will work alongside other Birmingham Mind services, other mental health support services and relevant statutory and third sector providers. They will be key to helping service users to understand their recovery journey through relationship building and person-centred care.

We are looking for individuals with lived experience of mental health difficulties, who can build on and use this experience to support others to achieve recovery and maintain independence.

You will have excellent interpersonal skills, with a clear understanding of mental health difficulties and a knowledge of some of the services which can support people. A positive attitude to people experiences mental distress will be essential.

Successful applicants will receive specialised peer mentor training alongside Birmingham Minds in-service training programme.

All peer mentors will receive structured practical and wellbeing support and will be provided with personal developmental opportunities through Birmingham Mind’s Peer Mentoring Programme.
