Trainee Production & Material Planner

Company Profile

Birmingham Joinery are a long running, well established manufacturer of fine bespoke joinery products and commercial fire doors for the construction industry. We currently service new and existing clients across the UK. Following a move to new and upgraded manufacturing premises we are currently going through a period of investment and growth and as such are looking to add to our team. We have a loyal customer base and undertake work for some of the UK’s biggest construction companies. Our customer base consists of main contractors, large and medium sized construction companies, merchants and retailers and small to medium size contractors. We have a large manufacturing and storage facility based in the Small Heath area of the city.

The Role

Birmingham Joinery are currently recruiting for a Trainee Production & Material Planner to work on a permanent full-time basis, some flexibility may be offered for the right candidate. Full training will be offered to the successful candidate.

The successful candidate will be involved in assisting and preparing orders for manufacture, this will involve collecting information from customers relating to active orders and communicating with suppliers to plan availability of materials. You be involved in preparing and confirming job cards, worksheets and cutting lists for the factory, planning transport and delivery and also scheduling work into the work programme. The role will also include forming and negotiating long term partnerships with suppliers to secure the most competitive and reliable supply lines.

Key responsibilities include

· Liaising directly with the sales team and workshop to ensure paperwork is ready for manufacture.

· Inputting information on Doors, Windows, Frames and all other joinery items into the system.

· Liaising with customers to confirm aspects of design and ensure we are meeting their requirements.

· Using our production planning and manufacturing software to produce job cards, worksheets and cutting lists for the factory to manufacture from and material acquisition sheets to order materials from.

· Review material dates and plan when material needs to arrive to meet production dates.

· Working with suppliers to negotiate the best rates.

· Reporting to the Manager to agree on preferred suppliers and annual rebates.

· Ensuring the correct materials are ordered and used in compliance with our procedures and accreditations.

· Booking in deliveries and arranging transport.

· Dealing with clients on a daily basis and enacting any amendments to existing orders.

· Liaising regularly with the production manager and the factory workshop.

· Record and process non-conformance documents arising for manufacturing team.

The Candidate

The successful candidate will possess the following skills:

· Confident and firm demeanour with good communication skills and the ability to negotiate with suppliers.

· Experience in a Joinery or manufacturing background would be preferred but not essential.

· Experience in customer service or administration essential.

· The ability and desire to work as part of a team/

· The ability to meet deadlines

· Possess good IT skills, including MS Office, Excel

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: £20,000.00-£30,000.00 per year
