About the position

The Australian High Commission, London is currently looking for experienced security professionals who are interested in working on a casual basis. Casual security guards will be expected to work ad hoc shifts to support the Australian High Commission’s Business Operations section in a guarding and front of house capacity, particularly assisting with absence coverage and events. Shifts may cover days or nights, depending on the applicant’s availability.

The key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Act as Front of House for all guests and visitors at Australia House and provide security and guard services to the High Commission.
  • Ensuring all relevant security procedures are undertaken in relation to visitors to the High Commission.
  • Occupy strategic points during the day to ensure security of the building.
  • Monitor the Visit Management System (VMS) and Security Management MS Outlook mailbox. Receive visitors and contact relevant officer who will escort visitors.
  • Assist with/respond to queries from the public, in an appropriate and professional manner.
  • Arrange issue and collection of door keys and maintenance of the Key Register.
  • Monitor CCTV, fire and alarm systems, and report all incidents to the supervisor. Assist with safe evacuation of staff and maintain security of the building thereafter.
  • Conduct internal and external patrols and nightly check of all areas of the High Commission.
  • Assist with evening events as required. Be trained and available to cover shortfalls in the shift guard roster (days and nights).

Qualifications/Experience

Essential

  • Security Industry Association qualification or prior training.
  • An understanding of reception work, access control, patrolling and use of IT systems.
  • Effective communication and customer service skills, with proven ability to remain calm and polite under pressure and show discretion and professionalism at all times.
  • Reliability, self-motivation and ability to use own initiative and work without supervision.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to engage professionally with senior stakeholders including VIPs.

Desirable

  • X-Ray operation and interpretation to SIA standard.
  • Experience monitoring CCTV, auditing, and the ability to provide Audio and Written Evidence of security breaches, up to an evidential standard expected within the Courts.
  • Experience in day to day operation of fire systems.
  • First Aid at Work Qualified or similar standard qualification or ability to obtain and maintain qualification.
  • Experience working in a busy reception area, interacting with the public and visitors.
